I have noticed my working situation gradually changing when more Chinese join our group. The first difference is Chinese are hard-workers that willing to put in extra hours without pay constantly. When I'm the only one doing it in the team, the boss is impressed. But when there are so many Chinese colleagues around doing the same thing, well, the game starts changing. Boss starts to expect it as a normal behavior from Chinese. And suddenly, if I do not want to work long hours, I look like a lazy person. (I have to blame myself on this one too :(
The second difference is Chinese are well-known for obedient. We are so eager to please that tend to follow whatever stupid ideas our boss might have and never challenge them. Again, once this becomes a pattern in a Chinese dominant team, anyone who dares to raise a different voice will become an eyesore. Not a fun situation to be for any serious engineer.
The 3rd difference is Chinese male always look down on their female colleague, and do everything in their power to be-little or bad-mouth others work, so to present themselves smarter. Maybe this backstabbing technique is not limited to female colleague, but I'm sure it is only applied to fellow Chinese, never to Americans.
I don't want to list 4th, 5th ....
Just want to say, as a Chinese female, I really do not enjoy my working experience with Chinese male. This is a sad truth.
Sorry to vent my frustration here. Maybe someday I can meet some decent Chinese during work to change my opinion.
