找工作的reference check

刚找到一个工作,公司答应给offer,但是是contigency offer. 理由是要contact我现在的manager,也就是公司的owner。我当然没告诉他我在找工作。可是如果他对我离开不满，说些不好的话，我岂不是鸡飞蛋打？到底现在公司都要当前manager的reference吗？大家都是怎样处理的？
