If you don't have at least one 1st author paper in nature, science, cell, nejm, or pnas, you are running risk.

I'd over 20 publications N-years ago, about half with citation index in the range of 5-10 and half as 1st author.

I tried but finally totally gave up. I am currently a programmer with 0% relationship to biology.
