Nice meeting you Physicist!
.Net used under MS Windows system.
Java used everywhere in high tech field.

With a Physics degree, people knew you are smart, with C/C++ coding skill, people knew you can code anything.

.Net and Jave is not hard to enter, eventually, to get a good IT job, you need gain some knowledge about DATA.
Not only simple coding for ./net or Jave, you need learn or know SQL, or Database.
