web programming

I saw some telecommuting web programming jobs online. I like telecommuting so would like to learn web programming. It seems there are many things to learn: XHTML,CSS, javascript,ASP.NET,PHP,AJAX,MySQL etc (from job description). Does anyone know how long it will take? Is it a good career path? I use SAS but don't know C/C++. Thanks!
