have you been the project leader/manager? has the big boss had a role in the team before? if not, there is something funny here. when the big boss wants to "facilitate" the team where he had no role before, it means he doesn't trust the team leader anymore. maybe have a one-on-one discussion with him to understand what his concerns are and clarify roles/responsibilities.
