In my opinion, there are a lot of things to do after you master the required language and tools skills:
1. Focus on some specific domain to gain more domain related knowledge and experience.
2. Pick a few open source project and read the document, source code, to understand the architect and design considerations, tradeoffs.
3. If you think the current system does not take non-functional requests into consideration, can you think a way to improve it?
4. Develop your people or project management skills. No matter how keen you are in technology, as your career progress, you will have to manage or mentor some people.
