Tell your boss you need a few weeks break

tell him you really appreciate his offer and you are willing to contribute but you really need a few weeks break to work better. If he really need you and think highly of you (I believe so because he asked you to think twice), he might ask how many weeks you need.

If he doesn't approve it, you can give up at that time if you really hate the work. No harm to try, I guess.
