I personally feel that mathematics is very important in computer science. Maybe at entry level or even intermediate level you don't have to be so good at mathematics (maybe that explains some IT people don't even know factorial) but when you cross over to the more advanced levels (or you dig deeper), a lot more mathematical stuff/topics you will encounter.
