At the system level or machine level we need to know how busy the CPUs are; how much memory is being used and how much free memory are available; how many disk I/O operations there are, how busy the network interfaces are; etc. If the computer system is used to handle incoming requests, its system performance largely determine the throughput of the system, pretty much how many requests it can handle at a time; as well as the response time (how much time each request needs to wait to be processed).
