Lao tu help!!!!!!

Hi Laotu
I applied a research position in a public university. The hiring manager said he was arranging an interview for me. He also asked for references. I asked two professors (one is my former advisor) in that university. After he received the letters, he informed me that he already picked up someone else. I did not even get an interview. However, I suspect that my
former advisor blowed my opportunity by either gaving a poor recommendation or recommending her new Ph.D. student (white american). How can I get the information to confirm one or the other or none?
