I still believe it doesn't make sense to count the lines of code.

The bottom line is how many projects / functions you have made done and working properly. If it cannot work, the 1 million lines code equals to ground zero. I saw a lot of projects failed.

Software should be teamwork. A million lines project which only a couple of guys work on will be failed at last, guaranteed.

The HR recruiter is either lying or boasting. It is good for you not to work with such guy. Otherwise, you will be regard as a small potato with no respect at all.
