Accounting question! How to record Unrealized Loss for the investment account? Thax.

Say, the value of investment account as of Dec. 31, 08 is $500k, but beginning balance for this account as of 1/1/08 is $700k. How to record $200k unrealized loss in accounting? Thanks for your time.
