You can work as a lab technician or research associate

until you retire. I have seen quite many people doing that in the medical school when I was doing research there.

At this stage of your career, switching to accountant is probably not wothy it. How about something like nurse, PA (physician assisatant), ultrasound technician, radiology technician, etc.
