Yes do it! It's good news, congrats! You've done a good job for yourself, so that your employer is willing to go through the trouble of keeping you in US, by sponsoring your GC, and by paying the cost for that. You employer is just trying to prevent any possible troubles, and protect their interest in case you're not going to get nice.
It's a nice thing, you have a job (of course, more importantly, you get the income associated with that job), and your employer will sponsor your GC -- after your GC you are up to the open labor market, but you may not want to leave at that time anyway, because you have been doing so good...
Go do it, stay at job and wait for GC, use more time here blah...
