Once I was thrown into hot water (new environment, I was not good at anything there), and see if I can swim. If I can swim, then I get to stay with the company, otherwise, they'll lay me off. Big company gives you time and training and maybe a mentor, but they are very picky to hire someone. Small company is the opposite. Easy to hire but easy to fire.
