It depends on your skill set and background. For me, I have medical background, and also have Ph.D degree. I stayed in a university (as a post-doc) for three years, where I also participated a number of clinical studies. (If you are working in a medical university, that is not a hard thing to do). In 2004, I was hired as a associate director in clinical research in a small pharmaceutical company, and last year, I changed my job, and joined a big pharmaceutical company. Of course, it is not easy, lots of hard work, and sleepless nights (travel), etc J

I also know a successful story of changing job within the company. I know a girl who is a chemist in our company. She did an excellent job in preparation for clinical jobs, (to the best of my knowledge, she participated lots of internal trainings, workshops, and also obtained an “internship (no pay)” with our clinical group for about a year. – I think she is doing some basic work for them 10 hour a week while still maintain her job as a chemist). She was hired by the clinical group as a clinical scientist several months ago. Of course, it was not easy for her, having to work 2 jobs, and have a baby to take care of (maybe something else that I do not know).

I guess if you really want to, and willing to pay for it, you can certainly get what you want.

Just want to share the stories.
