I had the exact same experience! Not weird to me.

My story is, they chosed that guy over me thinking he had more experience. That guy after relocating to my area for this job got dumped by his GF (due to long distance), so he got depressed - he came to the office late, surfing internet, not finishing his work all the time, etc. So the company had to let him go after tolerating him for 3 months. Then they called me.

My point is you never know the story in the other side of the screen.
