It's very normal for a contractor to find a permanent or another contract job. If you don't, probably your manager will feel strange about that. What's the point you keep yourself on an unsafe position? Will your manager appreciate that? I guess he just doesn't care, right? But you don't have to let your boss know you are searching for job if it makes u uncomfortable. Find others who can talk good about you as your references, such as those when you got this contract position. You can inform him if you have another offer, just give formal time to transfer your current work.
