We are playing political games here, not life-or-death class struggle, in career development.

Let us get to the very bottom of this issue, and I think all of us thinking that we must help each other. Right? So, we have a discussion here. However, I guess, you guys have not fully understood unwritten rules of the game.

Even you are a leader, you cannot act like a dictator. In my US career life, I never experienced a hiring process that hiring manager can make decision purely on his or her self. There are always a lot of other people having impact on that. Even to the top level, my big boss cannot put any one onto the board without majority support from our director board.

So, if you are serious about the game, you have to understand the process first and find out your strategy to successfully make your political movements to place yourself and other chinere people into "crtical" roles.

That is what is lacking from the original post; and your post fortify those "unilateral" and "absolute" movements even further. This is not game we are playing here. As those who are in manager level and trying to get into executive level, this is something you have to avoid totally. You should start learn how to utilize other people to support your points and even have them to speak for you!

To a higher level, you should be able to manager your bosses, if you are so good in communication! As in my mind, if you know how to manage your bosses, you are very likely having overcame the most difficult part for most Chinese to reach the highest posts in the company. That is very much my water mark of how an executive level of communication should be. And management is all about communication!

Back to the hiring point, you have to make most people in the hiring process think Chinese is the most "fit" candidate we can find. In other front, if you can have your boss push your project as the most important project in the company, that will be even better!

Now, let us get into some details. No one is perfect and that is for sure. So, how can you convince your boss to selece Chinese over other candidates? How can you lead the interview process so Chinese can be better show their strength? How can you make them "look" cool? All of these are just something manageable and makable.

For the salary bit, if you can convince your boss, that budget for your dept is way to low rather than blame candidates ask for too much. You can have more resources and improve your visibility in the company by speak for your dept rather than yourself. Why do you just do that?

For communication, I guess there are always errors any where. I do not care and am not worry at all; in one of my old posts, I have said that even legal documents from law firms have errors in English language. Communication is just a tool for me to expand my power in the company! If that is English, then I use English; if that is something else, I just learn that.

The most important is that policitics, office or not, is all about process in this country. This is not China, even the president must follow laws and regulations. I cannot overstate the importance of understanding of the process! It is where you know you can manupilation and offer help to Chinese people!

As all, I think the original post is good as the attitude -- we must help each other! However, his approach is not good! He always expects candidates to be perfect Chinese rather than manupulate the process to get them more opportunities and more exposure to the top level management team!

Good Luck!
