termination because of reference check?

I am on H1B.

After the hiring manager conducted reference check, they gave me the offer.

2 weeks into the new job, news came that one of my reference checks didn't turn out good.

Now, they are thinking of letting me go because of this.

I'm feeling so depressed, because I can't go back to previous company no more.

Why in the world would this happen to me? yu men!
