紧急求救，因车祸被起诉后怎么应对？

我住在北加州，一年多撞了别人的车。事后我和对方都被送进ER，经医生检查及拍片后，均被当场RELEASE。他好像肩膀受了点伤，其他都好。之后我的保险公司接手，我也再没过问。今天我突然接到对方起诉我的传票，说他HAS SUFFERED wage loss, general damage, medical expense, loss of earning capacity，需要赔偿。 我是一个遵纪守法的老实人， 从来没想到会被起诉。接到传票，我都懵了。

我知道该请律师，可怎么才能请到好律师？我的INSURANCE COVERAGE不够的话，他们是不是可以将我的房子及其它一切财产都收走？
