Sorry, I just want to say there is no need to feel 难堪 for
an associate professor position.
If you are a fresh Ph.D, and you got an associate professor
position in top 3 Uni/Inst in China, it's really good enough.
If you got the associate professor position in a top 50
Uni. and suppose you are a fresh Ph.D, it's still O.K.
If you are going to take a position in a small Uni, then
you should ask a full professor position, even some
special program.
If you want to get a full professor in top 3 Uni/Inst, you
really have to have at least 6-year postdoc experience,
and more importantly, you have to have some good work
known in your field.
The situation in China really changes ... I'm also looking for
a job, what I said here is based on the information I got. It's
not bad starting from an associate professor position in a good
Uni/Inst. You may feel unfair that some people are not as good
as you but they got much better positions than you, and they
even control your promotion. Well, they are lucky because they
went back to China at the right moment.
