I don't know what he was doing before, but I don't think he can have such an established career on WS at a young age of 33. I'd guess some high paying trader job, which doesn't really require a lot of experiences or skills. Has he made MD yet? If not, what sacrifice?

If you honestly think he's probably the best man you can find in this life, then I'm sorry to say: Suck it up and give in to his desires and try to stay happy!
