父母孩子的收入和资产都要算

Expected Family Contribution < cost of attendance (publisehd by school, including tuition and room and board)

EFC = progressive scale % x parent income + 5.64% x parent asset + 50% x student income + 20% x student asset

Note that all income and asset has certain allowances., e.g. home doesn't count, retirement doesn't count etc.
