为 = Change the world because of you

It does not = money, although money does help

It does not = fame, because fame is actually the result of it, not the cause of it

为 can be small scale or wide scope.

But 为 almost always means leadership. And leadership needs great passion.

That's why the elite schools are looking for leadership and passion as the most critical quality of a candidate, because it is a good indicator or forerunner of 为, although not a perfect one (there is no perfect one)
