This backdoor Roth is a variable, no one knows whether the outcome will be good or bad.  To do the backdoor Roth, you need to pay the tax to do the conversion and you will hope that you can make it up the tax paid in Roth, and you will not need to pay the tax when taking it out.  My take is that I will delay paying any taxes as long as I can.
