And to go beyond that, if you can. If you don't feel comfortable, just refuse them based on the lack of credible rental history.

Unless they just moved from another city/state, there is a great likelihood that they were kicked out by somebody, either by landlord or because of foreclosure.

Remember not many a mom likes to live with daughter-in-law.
