This kid's best chance is unusual academic promise. He doesn't really fit the other criteria. The problem is his record is qualitatively similar to other Asian boys. Maybe somewhat better, but that's not necessarily enough.
Keep in mind, the ultimate key to stand out, is to be different. Most admissions officers (and employers for that matter), find the Asian boys indistinguishable. So, think long and hard about how to tell a personal story in the essay. By that, it's not about accomplishments. You need to bring a "perspective" to it, show maturity, and show personality.
