need some help with pumpkin

i watched youtube about baking/steaming pumpkins to freeze later, so i decided to bake half and steam the other half. just cut open one, but how do i clean out the inside? does it have to be all clean? it is pretty hard to do - i used a dull knife to scrape. i'll try googling a bit but if anyone is kind enough to reply, i'll be waiting:) thanks.
