I Am Afraid It's A Myth

I am afriad it's a myth:

Other version that Duke was some way associated with are Yale or Georgetown but none of them is true.  Washington Duke Duke used his influence to have Trinity College moved to Durhamand and his son James Buchanan Duke established Duke Endowment in honor of his father. Both were born in NC and we all know NC is the amjor tobacco-producing state.  Among the unversity he supported are Davidson College, Furman University, Johnson C. Smith University, all of them are in NC.

The only one that is well documented is Stanford-Harvard story since Stanford initially wants to donate to Harvard but was refused and Stanford University was born.
