As a matter fact, rice and flour are all sugar even they taste not sweet--the starch is polymer of glucose. The reason that starch does not cause as much trouble as sweet sugar is because the slower process in our digestion system, which does not cause a on-set of high blood sugar, like after take a sweet drink.
