A chemist joked with me:" You know, when we find a patent with some  interesting compounds, the 1st thing we will do is study the patent to figure out any potential holes on it. If there is one, we will synthesize our own to test without even bother the patent holder..." There is bully? yes. By law, they are perfect legal.

I can also tell you that there is a big buyer of patents. They group has their own lawyers to fight big companies for violation of patents. For small people who hold a patent, this might be the best way to fight and get some compensation. Some big companies hate this practice because it creates a big headache for them...
