question about primary residence mortgage

I plan to move to California. I am now buying a house there as (future) primary residence. The moving might happen next year (depending on when Hubbie can find a matching job there). Can I rent the house out for a year before we move there? Don't want to let the house vacant for a year. Will it become a problem with the lender, since we told them it's for primary residence? Our current primary residence is in a different state, will sell it or rent it out after we move.
