my approach

1) diversify, never invest more than 5% in one stock

2) long and short positions to have dollar net zero

3) cut loss but with a a little wider range,since backtest indicates cut loss is a negative procedure to your account equitiy curve. 

all in all, have a sound strategy with edge, and stick to the strategy and cast a wide net to have more trade samples so that statistics plays out.
