1) you need to know term of this investment: long term? (10+ yrs) or middle (5+yrs) or short (1+yr) or daytrade (<1 yr)
2) know your risk tolerance. aggresive, modest, or conservative.
3) know your size of investment. some funds/accounts have high fee. If the size is small, the cost takes big portion of your gain.
4)do your own research if possible. No one can give you a suggestion working for all situations. It should change over the time. Get into the field you familiar with, like your field of study.
