All the comments above are very helpful.  Buying a dslr or not really depend on whether you want to go into photography.  If yes, get a decent dslr, at least something like the pen.  If not, get a pen too, :)

There is book I really want to recommend if you are interested in photography.  You wont regret buying it:

it is by far the best book I know that teaches photography for beginners.
