Oh boy, this is a hard one.

If you are only looking for an appliance to make bread dough, the bread machine is the better choice.  It is really kind of “set it and forget it” deal.  The temperature is set ideally for the dough to raise, no fuss at all.  If you use the stand mixer, you will need to make sure to have the right temp for proofing the dough.  I’ve seen a lot of  home bread makers who go through a lot of trouble to build a proofing box just to have the right temperature and moisture.   So far, I know the best bread machine for home use is Zojirushi supreme bread maker, it has two kneading blades and you can even set your kneading time to the max of 30 minutes, which is perfect to make the Japanese Hokkaido bread or any type of bread.  This is also the only machines I know that you can get a horizontal loaf of bread out of the machine.

With all that said, I think I should collect some commission from Zo, ha-ha…

But if you do bake cakes, cookies, or even just mixing your dumpling fillings, a stand mixer is a very handy tool to have.
