MS or Phd, company sponsored H-1, entry level salary of 70K ~ 90K will be locked until you get your work permit or Green card. Forget about raises during this period, just pray company doesn't lay you off.

Then promotion will come to senior title with maybe 10% raise. In my experiences in SV, I rarely see management positions held by Chinese. So senior/staff/senior staff/principle are the titles most likely be held by them for most of their career life. Salary maybe capped at 150~170K until either laid-off, retire or change of career. Mind you though, the median house hold income in Santa Clara county is around 74K, so let’s not wonder too off into fantasy land.
