We went to see quite a few houses close to 270, yeah, it is noisy--in the yard, but not such that we can not live with. And, we are not that kind of outdoor ppl, and we know that if we close the window, it is almost as quiet as any house. Houses near train is different and can be worse. But when we lived (rent) almost immediately under the BART in CA, it just took us a few days to get used to the noise--in a quiet night. It occasionaly bothered us during day time once in a while in 1.5 years, but that never led us thinking about leave---it is amazing how tolerant human can be to the enviroment---maybe just us. BTW, before we moved to DC, a chinese family bot the house just beside where we rent.
Noise is not the only thing. We counted many factors when we made the choice. The house is in a very small, good community---we like it so much. The elementary school is very good---not high school---since we don't know if we still live here after 10 years. We are pretty happy with our choice for now. Rented a couple of rooms out to reduce our monthly pay.
The only problem is the yard is too big for me---I am not used to this and learning. Next time we will buy townhouse or SFH with small yard---I can hardly believe the renters enjoy yard work that much if they are not outdoor ppl.
we just bot a house near ICC, the being built freeway
