The Lakers actually played the game at the Boston pace and survived. It's a plus. Losing Farmer is a part of it because it took away the helter skelter part of the Laker offense. But it is not as bad against the Celts because Phil can simply match them up with big guards. It might be a problem down the road if the starters don't get enough rest.
Having Bynum in the game is key even though his stats don't show it. Ariza is always great energy and again his contribution is not reflected faithfully by his stats.
Still a bit surprised that Phil didn't use Vlad, but then Luke actually hit some shots and he definitely helped with the flow. Floor spacing is still something that the Lakers need to work on for Kobe had to operate a bit too much outside the painted area. Come on, with a single cover by Ray Allen many times, he should've had more room to attack the rim. Glad he did that on that last shot of the game, just to make a statement.
Pau needs to get mad. His soft-assed lay-ups won't cut it against elite teams. He should've gone to the line more times but it is his fault for not being aggressive. It's nice to see he picked it up later and was such a key part of the 4th quarter run.
Overall, the refs are fair but they called a few weak offensive fouls against the Celts. But then, Luke pulled the chair on Pierce perfectly twice and yet he got called for fouls. So overall, it's kinda even. Oh, somehow, I thought Ariza stepped out the bound when he passe the ball to Sasha for that and-1.
This is what frustrates most die-hard Lakers fans. They don't focus, concentrate and make the effort consistently. Somebody might blame it on their immaturity but they always play down to their competition ever since the Shaq-Kobe era. It just sucks to watch them struggle against weak teams after much stronger outings against good teams.
By the way, is it me or have the Celts peaked too soon? They are an old team and how long can they maintain their level of play? Michael Cooper actually said today that he expected the Cavs to come out the east?!
Merry X'mas everybody!!!
