We don't live in the Japanese cartoon world. Spirit and mentality are only two of many factors that determine the final outcome of a game. Though it is hard for you to believe, the performance of star players is one of the most critical reasons why a team succeeds or fails.
The teenagers are the most undaunted group on earth but dare you put High School players on key positions and expect a victory? Star players will be old and phased out. It is why people try to find the next/new star players in a group of no named players through college drafts or free agency every year.
Do I have faith on my team? Sure I do. I cheer for them every game regardless of the opponents. I have to be realistic however. This weekend's playoff game, for example, my team has deep concerns on the lineups. Our starting CB, LB, and Center were injured and their status is still uncertain for the game. If they can't go, who is gonna cover TB's star WR Joey Galloway, who is chasing their QB Jeff Garcia, is our backup Center reliable? The Giants fan pray that our Star WR Plaxico Burress stays healthy then he can provide more confidence to our QB to attack TB's strong secondary.
Is the Giants doomed? Absoluately not. If our backups step up we have the equal chance to win the game as the Bucs. To me, the Giants is my team and I always wish that they can win Super Bowl every season but I am also a logical and reasonable fan.
