what they are saying right now: information not available and impossible to verify both numbers from PRC and Tibetan exile government. Unforunately, that didn't happen until a couple days ago and AFTER, the massive Chinese protest from inside PRC as well as outside. If it wasn't for the constant bias I've seen during the last week, I wouldn't involve myself. CCP have its fault but their action had exposed the hidden faults of the once thought "objective" western media.
