-- With many years firmware developers experience, people on the earth all knew you are very smart;
-- Therefore, all the Job Agent and Client company HR knew you are smart;
-- Therefore, keep looking the same job if you need $$ now and you do not hate that job.

QA job is OK, however, not the best choice for you. Most importantly:
-- Software QA can work in the High Tech company where there is a QA team and which has not be outsourcing;
-- Usually QA guys will promote to developers, you are going down stream;
-- QA's life is not easy and busy before the new version release.

I suggest you swith to Database Analyst job, the major reasons are:
-- All the companies need Database Analyst job (not only hi tech), Hospital, School, Retail, Law Firm, Goverment, Lab, Insurance, you name it;
-- Database Analyst job is relatively easy to enter and the experience will be accumulated and you can do it till you are old.
-- The salary range is very wide, you can get high salary as you have more experience;
-- Most importantly, it offer a much nicer life style then QA and developers job;

Can You learn it?
-- Yes you can, many friends with longer gap and less smart then you have successfully did it. (Karen just started work yesterday in CANADA), why cant's you do it?
