Before getting new job, find another consult company for keeping H1 status is a better choice. If you transfer to F1, after you find new job, you may face to new H1 quota issue. That is why I think temporary H1 transfer is better. Also, pratically, a few weeks gap may not an issue. Never give up, however, keep in mind make the gap shorter than 180 days, that is the bottom line.
