Indoor action (eg, performance) photography needs fast lens

You will probably need two lenses:

1. Wide angle lens. This lens will be useful for indoor group or full body photos, and outdoor landscapes.

Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 (~$450) or Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 IS (~$950)

2. Telephoto lens. This will be useful for performance and outdoor sports.
