If using only one, then, it would be hard to decide where to place the light in the group photo. If one places it on the left, then, the left side will be very bright and the right side very dark. And one should avoid placing it in the center to begin with. And remember, there are a lot of photographers there: each kid in the photo brought his own photographer (aka Dad or Mom), so there is not much room (ie, you can place the light far away in hope that by the time light is more uniform. Far away light also reduces the effectiveness of softbox).
