because you never know how long it will last. My 300D was working perfectly, and then, it just quit in the middle of a shooting session. I sent it back to Canon to get it repaired ($300), and worked ferfectly again, for 200 photos. So if some one bought it from me for $300 before the first malfunction, he would be throwing his money into the water.
