All customs brokerage firm are required to have a Power of Attorney on file prior to transacting any Customs business on the behalf of the importer of record. The document indicates the US tax reporting number, and specifies if the importer is a corporation, partnership, sole proprietor or an individual

you didn't decribe more about you situation, I am just guessing that the broker asked you for "Power of Attorney", if so, what you need to do is ask the broker fax you a copy of the document, you need to fill in related infomation: your tax ID/your own SSN--if the goods are claim personal item;
or business tax ID/IRS# -- if the goods are for Business.
then you will sign the document and fax back to the broker, then he/she can do the work.
