Let me try to understand: This is a highly compensated/capable individual, yet he is showing such unacceptable behavior at work. My past personal experiences had been the followings:
1) He didn’t get credits for the work he did or credits taken away from him by others.
2) Mistreated/judged and/or conflicts with one or more others within your organization.
3) Personal issues at home.
Are you his boss? If I were you, I would like to have an honest conversation with him to find out more about him, so that it shows you are a true leader and do care. What is his area of expertise, educational background, and city? The reason I ask is to assess his marketability in the work force. The best case is for him to leave on his own. If he is terminated based purely on personal conflicts, you might be getting into lawsuit issues.
